Wonders Dance Academy is a part of daily life within the community.
It began through Kendrick’s own relationship with dance and gradually became something shared among the children — a way to spend time together, stay engaged, and express themselves.
Today, it continues as a regular part of life, shaped by the people within the community and the rhythms of each day.
How It Began
Kendrick developed a love for dance at a young age, which later led to a scholarship opportunity.
Before that, he spent time living on the streets as a child. During that period, dance became more than expression — it was a way to survive. Through dancing and small street performances, he was able to earn money for basic needs such as food, clothing, and temporary shelter.
Over time, this also became a way to bring other children together — creating an alternative to street life and helping some avoid more harmful paths.
As Kendrick began caring for children, dance remained a natural way to connect with them.
What started informally — practicing together, sharing movement and rhythm — gradually became something more structured. The children began learning together, supporting one another, and developing their own sense of expression.
Today
Today, many of the children participate in dance as part of their daily lives.
They practice together, perform locally when opportunities arise, and continue to develop their skills over time. For some, it is simply a joyful activity. For others, it becomes something they take more seriously.
Dance is not separate from the community — it is part of how the community lives, learns, and grows together.
Why It Matters
Dance here is not separate from life.
For Kendrick, it began as a way to get through difficult circumstances. That experience continues to shape how it is shared with the children today.
It provides structure to the day, a way to stay engaged, and something to work toward together. It also offers a way to express emotion, build confidence, and experience moments of joy.
For some of the children, it is simply something they enjoy. For others, it becomes something more meaningful over time.
Like the community itself, it is something that grows gradually — through consistency, participation, and shared experience.
A Living Part of the Community
Wonders Dance Academy is not a formal institution.
It is a living part of this community — something that has grown naturally over time, shaped by the people within it.
It continues to evolve as the children grow, learn, and express themselves in their own ways.
